US to deliver £280m aid package to Ukraine amid ongoing conflict
Reuters reported, citing sources within the American administration, that the United States is preparing a substantial military aid package for Ukraine worth £280 million.
The package is expected to be announced next week and will include patrol boats, additional ammunition for HIMARS systems, artillery ammunition of 152mm and 102mm calibre, spare parts, and other types of weapons.
Aid for Ukraine
Reuters notes that this is the largest military support package for Kyiv in many months. Since May, Washington has not supported Ukraine more than £207 million.
Assistance for Kyiv is being provided under the PDA (Presidential Drawdown Authority) mechanism, which allows the US president to use current weapons stocks to support allies in emergencies.
The scope and amount of assistance may still change before being signed by President Joe Biden, the agency emphasises.
