Trump's early presidency polarizes, approval steady at 52%
The latest poll commissioned by CNN examined the opinions emerging after the early phase of Donald Trump's presidency. Can the U.S. leader still rely on the support of Americans?
Donald Trump officially assumed office as President of the United States on 20 January 2025. Since then, just under a month and a half has passed, prompting SSRS to conduct a satisfaction survey for CNN.
The survey was conducted before the president's dispute with Volodymyr Zelensky, so it does not account for public opinion on that issue. Respondents were asked how they assess the 78-year-old's activities in three categories — job performance, priorities assessment, and political direction.
In each of these categories, negative judgments prevail — the overall result is 52 per cent approval and 48 per cent disapproval, seemingly unchanged from mid-February. Further details were provided.
The politician enjoys the support of 90 per cent of the Republican electorate — the same percentage of Democrats consider him a poor leader. Among the undecided, disapproval for his actions stands at 59 per cent (41 per cent support them — a decrease of two points).
CNN points out that during Donald Trump's previous term, none of his speeches before Capitol Hill significantly affected the polls more than the margin of error (3 per cent). This time it might be different, as the man himself has initiated the rapid fulfilment of campaign promises.
Unfortunately, a large segment of Americans believes that the policy he is pursuing is heading in the wrong direction (45 per cent negative versus 39 per cent positive, with the rest expressing no opinion).
Men are voting for Trump. What about women?
The survey indicates that more than half (52 per cent) are still waiting for the president to address the most critical national issues. Only 40 per cent recognise that he is already doing so. CNN also highlighted demographic trends.
Donald Trump is supported by 54 per cent of men, while 57 per cent of women disagree with his policies. These figures remain stable. The dispute with Volodymyr Zelensky and the agreement's failure regarding the war in Ukraine may affect them, but for Americans, domestic issues and what directly concerns them are more important.
