On Tuesday, 5th November, the presidential elections will begin in the United States. The Republican candidate, former White House host Donald Trump, will face Kamala Harris, representing the Democrats and the current Vice President of the USA.
The stakes in these elections are extremely high, and the campaign is full of emotions and tension. According to polls, the race for the presidency is incredibly close. We might have to wait many hours, or possibly even days, for the final election results in the US.
Elections in the USA. Trump supported Harris's campaign
This is not the first time Donald Trump and Kamala Harris's paths have crossed. The website npr.org reminds us that once, the billionaire supported his current competitor when she was running for lower positions. Donald Trump donated twice to Kamala Harris's re-election when she ran for the California Attorney General position.
He donated £4,000 in September 2011 to Harris's 2014 campaign and £800 in February 2013. His daughter, Ivanka, also donated £1,600 to the current Vice President's campaign in 2014.
Harris became Attorney General in 2011 and resumed office in 2014. She held that position until 2017 when she was sworn in as a United States Senator.
Harris had money from Trump. Here's what she did
It turns out Kamala Harris did not keep the funds Trump gave her. In 2015, the entire £4,800 went to a non-profit organisation working for the civil and human rights of Central American residents.
Donald Trump donated mainly to Democrats until 2010. He spoke openly about it at one of the rallies in 2016 when he first ran for the presidency. How did the Republican candidate explain his support for the opposing side?
- I have to pay them because when I want something, I get it. When I call, they do what I want - claimed Donald Trump. He even added that he supported Hillary Clinton, with whom he battled for the White House in 2016. That campaign ended successfully for him.
