“There is no one wiser and better leader than Viktor Orban. He is fantastic,” Donald Trump told the head of the Hungarian government in front of guests at his Mar-a-Lago club on Friday.

Orban visits Trump

A video of the event was shared by Orban on his Instagram. “He is an unquestionable figure because he says: 'it will be so' and that’s it. Right? He is the boss. He's a great leader, very respected,” said Trump.

The Hungarian Prime Minister met with the former US President at Trump's Florida estate during his visit to the United States that began on Thursday. Both leaders lavished praise on each other. Orban has described Trump in speeches and interviews as the greatest hope for peace in Ukraine.

Even before meeting Trump, Orban had discussions in Washington at the prominent conservative think-tank Heritage Foundation. Heritage has recently changed its stance on foreign policy, now strongly opposing support for Ukraine.

“The biggest fight in international politics is between globalists and those who believe in national sovereignty. I am delighted to see at the Heritage Foundation that we sovereigntists also have many friends in the USA,” Orban wrote on the platform X.

Biden comments on Trump’s meeting

There were no meetings with representatives of the current US administration on the agenda of the Hungarian Prime Minister's visit. When asked on Friday whether he was concerned about Orban's meeting with Trump, US President Joe Biden told reporters: “if I'm not, you should be”.

The meeting was also discussed during a campaign event in Philadelphia.

“You know who he (Trump) is meeting today, in Mar-a-Lago? With Orban from Hungary, who outright said he doesn't believe democracy works - he is aiming for a dictatorship. That's who he is meeting with,” said Biden.
