Trump and Putin's lengthy talks hindered by language barrier
The conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin lasted over an hour due to the language barrier. As explained by the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, the Russian president does not speak English, necessitating the presence of translators. This information was reported by the Ukrainska Pravda portal.
Marco Rubio revealed that the Wednesday phone conversation between President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin was extended due to the necessity of using translators.
The Russian president does not speak English, which significantly prolonged the conversation time. This information was reported by the Ukrainian Truth portal, citing the podcast The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.
While the conversation with Putin lasted over an hour, Trump also spoke with the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, which took about 45 minutes. Rubio emphasised that Zelensky speaks fluent English, allowing for direct communication and quicker resolution of issues.
Both conversations focused on pursuing peace, and Trump instructed U.S. officials to initiate negotiations on this matter.
On the same day, during the meeting of NATO defence ministers in Brussels, U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that Ukraine's return to its pre-2014 borders is an "unrealistic" goal.
