On Tuesday, April 30, close to the Hainault underground station in northeast London, a man wielding a sword attacked bystanders. A 13-year-old boy was killed as a result of the attack. Four other victims are injured. Police arrested a 36-year-old attacker.

Around 6 AM GMT, London police were informed that a man armed with a sword was running through one of the streets in the northeast part of the city. According to the services, he attacked people he encountered randomly.

A 36-year-old man injured five people: three random pedestrians and two police officers. Among the victims of this frenzied attack was a young boy. The injuries inflicted by the attacker with a sword were too severe.

It is with great sadness that I confirm that one of those injured in the incident - a 14-year-old boy - has died from their injuries. He was taken to hospital after being stabbed and sadly died a short while after. - said Metropolitan Police Chief Inspector Stuart Bell.

Details of the attack and arrest of the assailant

The police apprehended the 36-year-old aggressor mere minutes after being alerted. According to information from British media, the remaining four wounded are in hospital.

The 36-year-old man is currently in custody. During the arrest, which took place shortly before 7 AM GMT, the attacker was subdued with a Taser and arrested. Officers captured him just 22 minutes after the initial call.

Mayor's statement and reaction from London residents

The mayor of the city responded to the tragedy. Sadiq Khan issued a statement and urged the city's residents to be cautious.

I'm sure I speak on behalf of the entire city when I say our thoughts and prayers are with this young child and his family - said Sadiq Khan in front of Sky News cameras.

In the comments on the X platform, there was uproar. Citizens of the British capital are questioning when the police will be equipped with real firearms for interventions. Metropolitan Police officers in England do not carry firearms but are armed only with batons.
