The pilot decided to make an emergency landing in light of the situation. In Illinois, rescue services were already waiting for the child. However, as reported later by the coroner's office, when the plane landed, the girl was not breathing and had no discernible pulse.
The child was transported to a local hospital in the city of Peoria. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, her life could not be saved. On the spot, the child's death was confirmed.
The coroner's office reported that an autopsy was scheduled for Friday, adding that preliminary findings regarding the incident would be published after its completion.
