Toyota partners with Haas: Bold move back to Formula 1
Toyota participated in Formula 1 from 2002 to 2009. Now, the Japanese manufacturer returns to the pinnacle of motorsport, although in a completely different role.
Formula 1 has been experiencing a resurgence lately, attracting major automotive companies. An example is Audi, which is taking over Sauber. Toyota is also joining the group of manufacturers wanting to make their presence felt in the paddock.
The Japanese giant has announced a partnership with the American team Haas. The collaboration is expected to bring mutual benefits. Toyota will provide Haas with its expertise, engineers, and headquarters in Cologne, Germany, and Haas will allow Toyota to explore the world of advanced F1 technologies more deeply. Toyota engineers are also set to co-develop the aerodynamics of the cars and influence the operation of key components.
Time will tell if the cooperation will evolve into something bigger. For now, Toyota is not planning a full return to F1, but who knows? Maybe the experience gained with Haas will lead to the creation of a factory team in a few years?
