Streets in Spanish towns in the country's south have again been submerged. Due to flooding caused by heavy rains, educational activities were cancelled on Thursday in all facilities in the provinces of Malaga and Huelva, as well as partially in Granada.
The most challenging situation is in the city of Malaga. On Wednesday evening, the city council announced that on Thursday, all sports facilities, public service centres, citizen service offices, museums, libraries, and markets would be closed.
Earlier, the Spanish meteorological office, AEMET, issued the highest possible red alerts for Tarragona, Malaga, and Valencia provinces. Two weeks ago, floods in Valencia and other parts of Spain killed over 200 people. On Wednesday, thousands of residents were evacuated due to the torrential rains and storms that hit the country.
An orange alert is in effect on Thursday in the southern province of Granada, where 2 to 5 inches of rain are forecast. Heavy rains are expected to continue until Friday.
He came to the aid of an elderly woman
Social media showcases examples of the help residents are providing to each other. According to the description of one recording, a man came to the aid of an elderly woman standing alone up to her knees in water and paralyzed with fear. The man approached her, picked her up, and carried her to a safe place. The situation described occurred on Heroes de Sostoa Street in Malaga. "A wonderful example of humanity and solidarity," commented the video's author.
