Breakfast is a crucial meal that greatly influences our efficiency for the rest of the day. Vegetables are a source of many vitamins and minerals, but not all are suitable for consumption on an empty stomach. We suggest what to avoid.

Although tomatoes are full of beneficial components such as potassium, magnesium, iron, and B vitamins, they can be harmful if eaten on an empty stomach. People suffering from stomach ulcers or gastroesophageal reflux should avoid tomatoes, especially in the morning. Otherwise, unpleasant consequences may follow for the rest of the day.

Hot peppers should not be added to breakfast as they can lead to heartburn. It's better to incorporate them into the diet later in the day. The same principle applies to other popular vegetables. Natural acids in peppers and cucumbers can irritate the stomach, so it's better to avoid these as the first meal.

Do you like peppers and cucumbers for breakfast? It's not always a good choice

Garlic, a natural antibiotic, helps fight various ailments, but it is not recommended for breakfast. This is mainly due to one ingredient: allicin. Allicin can overburden the digestive system, negatively affecting the intestines.

Onions and leeks consumed in the morning can damage the stomach lining, increase gas production, and cause heartburn. Eating them on an empty stomach is also not the best solution.

Not only vegetables - it's worth diversifying your breakfast

Experts recommend that breakfast not consist solely of vegetables. Excess vegetables in the morning can disturb the acid balance in the stomach and lead to bloating. Enriching them, for instance, with dairy, can significantly improve the situation.

People with stomach or duodenal ulcers or inflammation of the digestive system's mucous membranes should exclude fresh vegetables from their breakfasts. Including them in the diet in the afternoon would be a much better choice.

This doesn't mean that vegetables for breakfast are disadvantageous in every form. If we decide on vegetables for breakfast, it is wiser to cook them beforehand and add them, for example, to scrambled eggs. An alternative to morning vegetables could be porridge with nuts or fruits.

When preparing breakfast, it's also worth opting for milk and similar products, like natural yoghurts or buttermilk. Wholegrain bread or muesli mixed with porridge oats or dried fruits will also be a good choice.
