According to the published data, 39% of respondents rated Walz positively, while 30% expressed a negative opinion about him. In the eyes of the respondents, JD Vance appears less favourable – 32% of those surveyed see him in a good light, while 42% have a negative opinion of him.

Reporters at ABC point out that these results are not yet final. They note that many Americans have not yet formed an opinion about either candidate. 31% of respondents admit they have no opinion on Walz, while for Vance, it’s 26%.

Support analysis

An analysis of both candidates shows that support is aligned with ideological divisions. JD Vance can count primarily on the support of the electorate that voted for Donald Trump four years ago: registered Republicans (68%) and conservatives (65%). He is also supported by white evangelical Christians (59%), as well as 48% of US military veterans and 45% of rural residents. As many as 75% of people who voted for Trump now support Vance.

On the other hand, Walz is most positively perceived by those who previously voted for Joe Biden (82%), Democrats (77%), and those who identify as liberals (78%). College graduates (53%) and every second Black person also see him in a positive light.

Among independent voters, who could be key in deciding the elections, 49% lean towards Walz, compared to 42% who prefer Vance.

The survey for ABC News was conducted by Langer Research Associates, with data collected by Ipsos.
