"One of the candidates in the election benefited from high visibility on TikTok due to preferential treatment by the platform, which did not require him to label election content," stated the National Defence Council, as quoted by the media.
In the first round of the presidential election, which took place on Sunday, the first place was taken by a far-right representative, independent candidate Colin Georgescu. This previously little-known politician quickly gained popularity thanks to an extensive campaign on the TikTok platform.
In second place came Elena Lasconi, the head of the centre-right Union to Save Romania (USR). The second round of elections will take place on 8 December.
