During the morning mail check for the Slovak Prime Minister, Robert Fico, Office for the Protection of Constitutional Officials and Diplomatic Missions employees noticed an envelope from an anonymous sender. Inside, as reported by Plus 7 Days, was a pistol bullet.
A police spokesman in Bratislava, Michal Szeiff, confirmed in a conversation with the Slovak media that such an incident occurred. Law enforcement agencies immediately addressed the matter.
First an assassination attempt, now threats
The Slovak Prime Minister received an ominous letter with a bullet just a few months after a failed assassination attempt on his life. On 15 May, Fico was shot in Handlova, in the western part of the country, during an away government meeting. The assailant was apprehended.
The Prosecutor General of the Slovak Republic, Maroš Žilinka, posted a statement on social media emphasising that sending an envelope with a bullet to the prime minister, who recently faced a "murderous attack," is not only a criminal act but also an expression of recklessness and callousness.
"I strongly appeal to the entire society for elementary decency and humanity! We must put an end to the cynicism and hatred that have overgrown our society," urges Žilinka.
