The secret language of cats: What their ears are telling you

A cat's body language can be quite surprising. A video on TikTok explains the various positions of a cat's ears. Even though it may seem surprising, they reveal quite a lot.

Animals send us clear signals through the positioning of their bodies. A video on Karolina Greger's TikTok account discusses these signals in cats. What can you tell from their ears? It turns out that different positions can reveal the emotions and feelings of these domestic animals.

The language of cat ears. Observe carefully

Although cats might not meow too often to express their opinions, their body language is rich enough that vocal signals are not always necessary. The author of the video highlighted four characteristic ear positions. Each position reveals different behaviours and feelings of our pet.

"Ears in a neutral position" - ears straight but slightly turned to the sides indicate that our pet is relaxed.

"Ears pointed straight upwards" - the cat is signalling that it is focused and something has piqued its interest, gathering information from its surroundings.

"Ears lowered to the sides, resembling airplane wings" - in this position, a cat sets its ears when feeling discomfort or anxiety.

- Sounds from the surroundings or sudden noises become unpleasant for the cat, and this way it tunes in to receive them - emphasises the author of the video, which has gained considerable popularity on TikTok.

"Ears flattened against the body" - this indicates that our four-legged friend is scared or preparing for a potential attack, and moving its ears back provides protection at that moment.

The TikTok video is spreading across the internet, and it has already garnered quite a lot of comments.

"My cats do 'airplane ears' when they get the zoomies; it's their 'high-speed mode' activation; airplane mode is always on when someone does something mischievous, and I loudly complain" - reads one of the comments from netizens.
