Special police mobilisation in Majorca ahead of the Spain-Germany match
The Balearic Islands are one of the most frequently chosen holiday destinations by Germans every year. This year is no different, especially considering that Euro 2024 is taking place in Germany, raising tension and emotions. The matter became even more serious when it became clear that Spain would face Germany in the quarterfinals.
Spanish police confirmed that on Friday in Playa de Palma, where most German tourists will be during the match, a special security operation has been prepared. Few details were given, but it was confirmed that the operation will include public safety units, such as intervention, preventive, and response police units. Units on motorcycles and plainclothes officers, known as undercover cops, will appear on the streets.
Business owners in the Balearic Islands have a plan for the match against Germany
Despite the police's special reaction, the authorities do not expect riots but want to be prepared for all scenarios. Restaurant owners have a similar mindset and want to maximise opportunities during the Spain-Germany match.
President of the Mallorca CAEB Restaurant Association, Alfonso Robledo, announced that many places will install additional TV screens and increase supplies of products such as alcohol. He indicated that the changes will pertain to Playa de Palma and Peguera areas.
At the same time, Robledo noted that the match time is disadvantageous. The game will start at 17:00 GMT, so he does not expect the profits he anticipates.
People will watch the game and not make dinner reservations because they do not know exactly when the Spain-Germany match will end. It depends on whether there will be extra time, penalty kicks, and so on. Restaurants do not have the capacity to install screens due to the layout of the dining areas – "The Sun" quotes him as saying.
