stolen pie caper: top chef pleads for festive goodwill
The owner of two Michelin-starred restaurants in the United Kingdom has appealed to the thief who stole a van containing 2,500 frozen pies. "Do something nice, the holidays are coming," he wrote.
Tommy Banks, the owner of two Michelin-starred restaurants in the United Kingdom, lost a company van. Thieves drove off with it, taking 2,500 frozen pies, which had been prepared for a holiday market.
Tommy Banks appealed to the decency of the thieves. He requested that the person or persons responsible for the disappearance of the company van show a gesture of goodwill before the holidays.
Thief stole a refrigerated van with 2,500 frozen pies
As reported by the "Washington Post," the refrigerated van was stolen on Sunday in Melmerby, North Yorkshire. The vehicle was packed with savoury pies with pastry crust and meat-vegetable filling.
In an interview with the BBC, Tommy Banks explained that the pies featured various savoury flavours. They included, among other things, steak and ale. There were also traditional English pies with turkey, cranberry, and pumpkin.
This supply was intended to last for a week's offerings at a holiday treat stall in York. The restaurant owner emphasised that the products could have fed several thousand people. The stolen pies were valued at approximately £23,000.

The restaurant owner does not regret the lost van as he will receive compensation for it. However, he cannot come to terms with the loss of such a quantity of food and worries it will go to waste.

"I know you are a criminal, but maybe just do something nice, the holidays are coming" – said Tommy Banks in a recording on social media. "Do the right thing; perhaps we can use the stolen pies to feed several thousand people," he added. He appealed to the thief to donate the goods to a social service centre.
