Stellantis halts production as Panda sales plummet in Europe
The Stellantis group's Italian factories are experiencing a challenging period. To make matters worse, the group authorities have decided to temporarily halt the production of some models due to weak demand.
The decision is surprising because the pause will also impact the plants producing the Panda, a long-time hit for Fiat. Unfortunately, the version following the latest update has become significantly more expensive, and customer interest has waned. In August 2024, only 3,873 units were sold in Europe. In the same period in 2023, the number was 6,505.
It is worth mentioning that Stellantis has already suspended production at the Mirafiori plant in Turin, which manufactures the Fiat 500e and two Maserati models. This pause will last at least until 1st November.
Next, more plants will halt production: Pomigliano d'Arco, Termoli, and Pratola Serra. According to a statement published by Stellantis on 16 October, the breaks in these factories are scheduled from 11 to 29 November.
The interruptions are due to insufficient demand for the mentioned models and intensifying competition from Chinese manufacturers.
