The tragic event took place on Friday, 11th October, in the town of Villarreal, located on the east coast of Spain, north of Valencia. According to the Spanish newspaper "Mediterraneo", the woman was on her way to the emergency room shortly after being bitten by the hamster, which was a family pet.

She was accompanied by her two children, aged seventeen and eleven. Unfortunately, she fainted just before reaching the hospital. Despite the immediate CPR attempt by the medical staff, they were not able to save her.

Following the incident, the police secured the area where the body was found, and the local court initiated an investigation into the cause of death. Currently, the cause remains undetermined. Authorities do not rule out the possibility that the woman's death might have been due to reasons other than the hamster bite. Veterinarians are uncertain if the incident involving the hamster is linked to her death. A heart attack is also a possible cause.

An autopsy has now been conducted, and the results may shed light on the cause of death, although such reports are typically not published in Spain.

Although incidents of this type are extremely rare, they serve as a reminder that a hamster bite can potentially lead to serious health consequences. Rodents can carry diseases, such as rabies or bacterial infections, though this happens very rarely.

Experts recommend thoroughly washing the wound after an animal bite to minimise the risk of infection. There have also been cases of people suffering severe allergic reactions after being bitten by animals, with symptoms that include breathing difficulties, which could lead to hospitalisation. In this case, an anaphylactic shock might have occurred, but there are no final conclusions yet.
