The tragic incident took place in the Markusovce municipality. The region's mayor, Peter Fulla, has already spoken out.
It is difficult to assess whether it was carelessness or a child's misadventure. However, this is a lesson for everyone to pay attention to their children and cars, he said in an interview with "Plus Jeden Den".
Press reports indicate that the tragedy occurred while a young family with three children was spending their holiday in Slovakia. They usually work and live in England.
Locals believe the girl's parents are caring and good people who strive to provide their children with decent conditions. They had been in Markusovce for three weeks already.
Tragic death of Ivanka. "No explanation"
Ivanka was supposed to go to the neighbours' pool on that tragic day. When it was discovered that the three-year-old was nowhere to be seen, a search ensued. The terrified mother of the girl and several others carefully combed the area.
Eventually, they found the girl in the car. She was already unconscious.
The mother immediately approached her daughter. Probably the door was not locked... It's terrible. Everyone is heartbroken, said the grandfather of the three-year-old.
The rescuers who arrived at the scene were unable to restore vital functions. The doctor did not find any injuries and ordered an autopsy.
Very few people care as much about children as they do, said Frantisek Pecha, Ivanka's uncle, quoted by "Blesk".
The tragic death of the 3-year-old has deeply shaken her parents.
They are at their lowest point. There is no explanation as to how she got into that car, summed up Pecha.
The police are investigating the circumstances of this incident. Criminal proceedings have been initiated. The girl's mother may be held responsible for causing her death, as the three-year-old was under her care. The father was not at home.
