Sliema residents rally against beachwear in city streets
"No beachwear on our streets" – this is the slogan displayed on 60 signs placed around Malta by a resident of the coastal resort of Sliema. His initiative has gained the support of many dissatisfied residents.
David Pace O'Shea, a resident of the coastal resort of Sliema, is appealing for decent clothing from people arriving on Malta. In this way, he protests against tourists turning the city centre into a beach and walking around scantily dressed.
Beachwear only on the beach
The resident of the coastal resort placed signs in various locations with illustrations of crossed-out bikinis and men's swimwear. "Beachwear only on the beach," said O'Shea, who also approached the mayor of Sliema for support of his initiative.
The protest organizer called for stricter enforcement of existing regulations in Malta concerning decency in public places. One article of the criminal code considers it a crime to "appear naked or in indecent attire."
