The railway line running through North Sinai, which was reactivated at the beginning of October this year, is approximately 100 kilometres long and connects the towns of Al Fardan and Bir al Abd.
The final stage of the project involves creating a network of around 500 kilometres that will link the Mediterranean coast with the Red Sea.
Excitement in Sinai
The appearance of a train on the tracks for the first time in 57 years sparked the interest of many people. The inauguration of the connection was attended by, among others, the Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel al-Wazir, and high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Transport and the Railways Authority.
According to local authorities, such an investment will significantly boost the economy. Experts say it could also contribute to greater tourism development. Local entrepreneurs and officials openly express their desire for Sinai to become a global tourism centre.
Historic moment
Local media shared a video on YouTube showing the train's arrival at the station, capturing a crowd of people engaged in the event. According to the governor of North Sinai, Khaled Megawer, this should be recognised as a historic moment in the region's history. The inaugural train was warmly welcomed by residents' shouts and applause, with many attendees waving flags.
