Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, who plays for Manchester City, arrived on English pitches two years ago and quickly gained a reputation as a goal-scoring machine.
At just 24 years old, he already has 70 goals in 69 appearances. However, Shearer highlights the uncertainty surrounding Haaland's future, including possible upheavals at Manchester City and the future of Pep Guardiola as coach, as the main reasons why the Norwegian striker might not break his record.
Despite his scepticism, Shearer does not hesitate to praise Haaland, calling him "the best striker in the world right now." He highlights his extraordinary efficiency and the enjoyment he gets from playing.
Will the Norwegian break Shearer's record?
Haaland needs 190 goals to break Shearer's record, which, at his current scoring rate, could take him six to nine and a half years.
Shearer also mentioned Harry Kane, another candidate to break his record if he decided to return to the Premier League. Currently, Kane is with Bayern Munich, and he needs 47 goals to reach the record.
While Shearer appreciates Haaland's talent and skills, he reminds us of the changing circumstances that could affect his ability to achieve this exceptional feat.
