Shannen Doherty gained international fame through TV series like "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Charmed". Although she ended her career a few years ago, fans still remember the star. In recent years, she has focused on her health and fighting breast cancer. Doherty spoke openly about her illness, including metastases to her bones and brain. Her manager, Leslie Sloan, announced the actress’s death news.
"It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. (...) The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace," the statement read.
Her friend was with her until the end
After the official news of Doherty's death, her closest friend Christopher Cortazzo decided to post an emotional entry on Instagram along with a collage of photos and recordings taken over the years.
"My beloved friend and heart. What memories and laughter we have shared through this journey. You were my protector, my best friend and my divine wife. My heart is shattered. I love you forever my sweet dear friend. Your Christopher," Cortazzo wrote.
Chris Cortazzo was seen by photojournalists with Doherty a few hours before her death. The friends were walking through the streets of Miami, talking and shopping.
Doherty had been battling the disease for years
In 2015, Shannen Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer. After initial treatment, the disease subsided, but unfortunately, it returned in 2019. In the following years, the actress shared information about the spread of the cancer to her brain and bones.
Despite her severe illness, Doherty became a symbol of the relentless fight for health and life. She openly shared information about her treatment, and recently, in her podcast "Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty," she mentioned another upcoming chemotherapy session.
