Shannen Doherty dies at 53 after brave cancer battle
Shannen Doherty passed away at the age of 53 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Leslie Sloane announced her death in a statement given to "The People" magazine.
Shannen Doherty, best known for her roles in the TV series "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Charmed", passed away on Saturday, 13 July, as confirmed by her agent Leslie Sloane in a special statement published in "The People".
"It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease. The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace," reads the statement.
Long battle with the disease
In 2015, Shannen Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer. After intensive treatment, the cancer went into remission but returned with doubled intensity in 2019. In recent years, the actress reported metastasis to her brain and bones.
Despite difficult prognoses, Doherty was renowned for her steadfast fight for health and life. She also openly discussed the various stages of her treatment. Recently, on her podcast "Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty", she mentioned that another cycle of chemotherapy awaited her.
Turbulent personal life
In addition to her illness, Doherty recently went through a difficult divorce from her third husband, Kurt Iswarienko. She also accused her husband of prolonging the separation to avoid paying her alimony, a claim reported by "People" magazine, which accessed court documents sent by the actress.
"It is simply not right that Kurt be permitted to prolong our divorce in hopes that I die before he is required to pay me," her words were quoted.
