Many reports by Russian media or government representatives are elements of propaganda. Such statements are part of the informational war conducted by the Russian Federation.

The Pope's statement to Swiss radio and television sparked a wave of comments. Francis noted, among other points, that "the stronger one is the one who sees the situation, contemplates the nation, and has the bravery of a white flag to negotiate".

"Today, one can negotiate with the assistance of international powers. The word 'negotiate' is courageous," added the Bishop of Rome.

Zakharova comments on the Pope's words

The controversial statements of Francis did not escape the notice of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova. The Kremlin spokesperson once again criticised the West.

"I view it this way: the Pope is asking the West to set aside its ambitions and admit that it was wrong," said Zakharova, as reported by the news agency ANSA.

The advocate of Vladimir Putin also claimed that the West is using Ukraine in an attempt to weaken the Russian Federation. "Russia has never obstructed negotiations, and the situation in Ukraine has become deadlocked," she elaborated.
