Russia's drone strike near Estonian diplomat fuels urgent call for more air defence in Ukraine
On Thursday morning, a Russian drone struck an apartment building in Kyiv, where the Estonian ambassador resides. "Ukraine needs more air defence and removed weapon restrictions to protect its people against the aggressor," declared Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal on Friday.

The Russian drone attack on Kyiv during the night from Wednesday to Thursday lasted for many hours. In the morning, one of them struck the apartment building where the Estonian ambassador in Kyiv lives.
Foreign Minister Margus Tsakhna assessed that the Estonian ambassador "was lucky not to be harmed."
- There were no casualties because no one was on the top floor - reported Ambassador Annely Kolk, who was assigned to the Ukrainian capital in the autumn of last year.
The drone hit the top floor, above the diplomat's residence. Firefighters extinguished the fire caused by the attack.
In Kyiv - as the ambassador admitted - "life goes on, cafes and restaurants are open, but Russian drones are targeting skyscrapers, apartment buildings, and structures."
As she emphasised, this is happening even though in October there was only one night when no air raid alarm was announced there.
- No one is safe in Ukraine until Russia stops its aggression. Ukraine needs more air defence to protect its residents. We must not get used to this - stated Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsakhna.
