According to bloggers specialising in war reporting on social media, several Russian soldiers opted to head back to their homeland and cease their involvement in the conflict with Ukraine. These soldiers travelled to Tuva, an autonomous Russian republic near the Mongolian border.

Their decision quickly turned to regret. Upon their arrival, they were detained and subjected to brutal torture by fellow soldiers. They were beaten with batons and suffered mutilation with electric stun guns.

The decision to leave the front accomplished little for the Russian soldiers of the 55th brigade. Their commanders forced them back into the conflict. The soldiers found themselves with no alternative but to resume fighting against Ukraine.

Footage of the incident has emerged online. It captures the ruthless actions of the soldiers' superiors towards those who refused to fight against Ukraine. Screams can be heard in the background, accompanied by derisive laughter. Defenceless soldiers are kicked in the face and subjected to verbal abuse.

This is not the first instance of the Russian command treating its soldiers as mere "cannon fodder". Videos occasionally emerge online showing superiors punishing subordinates for "insubordination".

Attempts to evade front-line combat in Ukraine are met with severe repercussions from commanders. There have been instances where Russian soldiers have killed their own, defenceless brethren in the midst of battle to prevent their capture.
