Russian sabotage campaign exposes European security threats

- If Putin is allowed to succeed in reducing Ukraine to a vassal state, he will not stop there, warned Richard Moore, head of MI6. The head of the British intelligence agency also admitted that a Russian sabotage campaign in Europe has been uncovered.

- We have recently uncovered a staggeringly reckless campaign of Russian sabotage in Europe, even as Putin and his acolytes resort to nuclear sabre-rattling to sow fear about the consequences of aiding Ukraine - announced Moore, who spoke at the British Embassy in Paris alongside Nicolas Lerner, head of the French Directorate-General for External Security (DGSE - foreign and strategic intelligence service).

Moore noted that the costs of not helping Ukraine would be much higher than the current support. Putin's success could embolden China, North Korea, and Iran. The head of MI6 emphasised that Ukraine's allies want victory, and MI6 and the French DGSE play a crucial role in assessing the risks associated with Russian aggression.

Moore's address aimed to mobilise Ukraine’s European allies and those in the future U.S. President Donald Trump administration who are sceptical of aiding Kyiv. Moore stressed that transatlantic cooperation enhances the security of the countries involved.

Iran's allies exhausted

Moore also mentioned the losses suffered by armed groups associated with Iran in the Middle East in their confrontation with Israel, but he noted that Iran's nuclear ambitions still pose a threat. Reuters recalled that Moscow is behind the growing number of diversionary actions in Europe.

Last week, American intelligence sources reported that Russia is likely to intensify its sabotage campaign in Europe to pressure the West and discourage it from supporting Ukraine. In October, Moore warned that Russia's military intelligence agency GRU is trying to sow chaos in the United Kingdom and Europe.
