"We need them for economic security," the future US president told journalists. He stated that he would not rule out the possibility of military action, acknowledging that it might become necessary under certain circumstances.

Donald Trump's son visited the island earlier. "Greenland is beautiful," he wrote on the X platform. As reported by Greenlandic and Danish media, talks are planned with Trump Jr. and others, including Erik Jensen, the leader of the influential social-democratic Siumut party. This politician officially invited Donald Trump to visit the island in late December last year.

The Prime Minister of Greenland, Mute Egede, cancelled the planned visit to Copenhagen on Wednesday, where he was set to be received by King Frederick X of Denmark.

A commentator from the Danish newspaper "Berlingske" described Trump Jr.'s trip to Greenland as "a humiliation of the Danish government". "Even if it's a private visit of the president-elect's son, no one should doubt what its purpose is," emphasised Bent Winther.

He reminded readers that Denmark is responsible for the foreign and security policies of Greenland.

In late December, Donald Trump appointed billionaire Ken Howery, a close associate of Elon Musk, as ambassador to Copenhagen. He emphasized the strategic importance of having control over Greenland, describing it as crucial for national security and global freedom.

Simultaneously, just before Donald Trump's conference, Musk wrote on the X platform that "if the people of Greenland want to be part of America," he hopes "they would be most welcome."

On Wednesday, 25th December, Trump claimed that Greenlanders want their island to be annexed to America, and Canadians would save 60% on taxes if their country became a state.

Trump extended Christmas greetings to the people of Greenland, emphasizing its importance to the United States for national security. He suggested that Greenlanders support U.S. involvement, adding that the United States would be present.

This was another post on this topic following Trump's announcement of a candidate for ambassador to Denmark and his assertion that the USA must "possess" the largest island in the world. Despite Trump's statements, the Prime Minister of Greenland has declared that the country has no intention of annexing the island to the USA.
