The Russian Federal Security Service arrested a 61-year-old Russian man, claimed to be planning a terrorist attack on a section of the Trans-Siberian Railway. According to Russian services, the man was allegedly recruited by Ukrainian intelligence while he was in Lviv.

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Saturday the arrest of a 61-year-old Russian citizen, accused of planning a "terrorist attack" on a portion of the Trans-Siberian Railway on behalf of Ukraine, as reported by the Polish Press Agency. This news came from Reuters, which gathered information from Russian state agencies and media.

The FSB alleges the man was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence during a visit to Lviv and then dispatched to Russia with a specific mission. He aimed to execute an attack in the Sverdlovsk region, situated in the Urals. According to Russian security services, the man has admitted his plan for the attack and is now assisting law enforcement.

The Trans-Siberian Railway targeted

Over recent months, Ukraine has stepped up its efforts against Russian economic sites, with many refineries, particularly in the western part of Russia, being hit.

It was earlier hinted by Ukrainian authorities that the Trans-Siberian Railway might be among their targets. This railway is crucial for linking the eastern and western parts of the nation; hence, its destruction could significantly impact the Russian economy.
