Russia unleashes new wave of missile strikes on Ukraine's energy grid
The renewed massive attack by Russian troops on the Ukrainian energy sector was reported on Friday by the Minister of Energy, German Galushchenko. The Russian army launched a significant number of missiles into Ukrainian territory, and an air raid alert was ongoing from the morning.
"The enemy continues its terror. Once again, the energy sector across Ukraine is under massive attack. Energy professionals are taking all necessary measures to minimise the negative consequences for the country's energy system," the statement reads.
Minister Halushchenko urged citizens to remain in shelters as long as the threat persists. "As soon as the security situation allows, the damage will be assessed. Stay updated with official communications," he wrote.
The transmission network operator, Ukrenergo, reported that "due to the massive missile attack on energy facilities, the scope of applying consumption-reduction measures has been increased today."
