According to reports from individuals working within the British court, Meghan Markle's behaviour irritated the royals. It was rumoured that the actress had a crush on Prince William.

The rumour resurfaced again last year, with tabloids even speculating about a child fathered by the future king with the former model. The supposed lover of King Charles' son finally decided to speak out. The lawyer of David Cholmondeley's wife stated that the circulated information was "completely false."
Did Meghan Markle flirt with Prince William?
According to the latest reports, even Meghan Markle was thought to have been fond of Prince William. These surprising rumours have emerged with the upcoming release of the book "Yes Ma'am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants", in which Tom Quinn explores the relationships among royal staff. The royal expert and journalist notes in his work that at the beginning of her time at the court, Prince Harry's beloved behaved inappropriately, making the royals in her presence feel "uncomfortable." In a passage of the book published via "The Times," the author points out that "hugging and cheek-kissing" by the American fuelled rumours among the staff that she "was flirting with William."
She was obviously not, but the tense atmosphere caused by all the touchy-feeliness (and the resultant gossip) deepened the rift between the brothers - stated Quinn.
The royals had enough of Meghan Markle's behaviour
The book reminds us that Kate and William initially found Meghan "delightful." However, due to Meghan's "warm, friendly, hug-everyone approach," they changed their minds. The actress allegedly hugged her brother-in-law virtually every time" they met. The royal expert reveals that Kate, William, and Charles had a tendency to flinch when Harry's partner approached to give them a hug.
Meghan was understandably hurt, as everyone apparently hugs everyone in California - the author writes.

In the Netflix documentary, Archie and Lilibet's mother admitted she didn't know that the royal family's "formality" also continued behind closed doors. She also revealed that she is a "hugger" and didn't realise it irritated some Britons.

In the book "Spare," Harry also recalls the awkward first meeting between his wife and brother, calling it a "classic collision of cultures." He stated that William "recoiled" from Meghan's hug.
I introduced Meg, who leaned in and gave him a hug, which completely freaked him out. He recoiled - he confessed, continuing: Maybe Willy expected Meg to curtsey? It would have been protocol when meeting a member of the Royal Family for the first time, but she didn't know and I didn't tell her.
Harry knew the actress would have to bow before the queen, but he didn't think it was necessary when meeting his brother, as he stated William "loved 'Suits'".
