Rodri was announced as the Ballon d'Or winner for the 2023/2024 season, although Vinicius Junior was favoured to win up until the last moment. According to "L'Equipe," the organisation responsible for awarding the prize, the Spaniard edged out the Brazilian by just 41 points (1170 to 1129).

The Spaniard, who plays for Manchester City, appeared on "El Hormiguero" and addressed interesting questions, including those concerning Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. The 28-year-old expressed his admiration for the Argentine but did not consider the Portuguese any lesser.

Rodri pointed out the difference between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi

Having previously played for Atletico Madrid, Rodri had the opportunity to compete against both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in La Liga. According to him, the fundamental distinction between the two is that the Portuguese was "lethal" primarily in the penalty area, whereas Messi could create danger from anywhere on the pitch.

Cristiano Ronaldo was able to match Lionel Messi without any natural talent, but as players who faced them both, we know the difference. With Cristiano, we didn't want him to enter the box because he was deadly there. But with Messi, he would be dangerous with getting the ball anywhere on the pitch, Rodri explained.

Rodri is currently recovering from a knee injury. His return to the field is anticipated in 2025, although no specific date has been given. In his absence, Manchester City experienced four consecutive losses for the first time under Pep Guardiola's nearly ten-year tenure.
