The residents of the village of Olgovka in the Kursk region have recorded a video complaining to Vladimir Putin about the difficulties they face after being evacuated. The Russians had to leave their family homes after Ukrainian armed forces attacked and occupied part of the Kursk region in Russia.
Russians from the Kursk region are calling for the "end this cursed war, which has claimed the lives of many innocent people."
- We’ve been left homeless… We’ve been living in hell over the past three months (...) We want our children to live in peace, not to constantly hear air raid sirens. Hear us, the residents of border regions, and take action. After all, we’re forced to endure all this not by our own will, say the residents displaced from the Kursk region in the recording addressed to Putin.
In their appeal to Putin, the Russians complain that they have lost their homes because their village was destroyed during the fighting. They emphasise that not everyone can afford to rent a flat, and the displaced people are finding it difficult to find employment.
In the recording, they also mention that many villagers have died. Some as a result of the attacks, and others because the evacuation was not announced in time.
Ukrainians attacked in the Kursk region
In August, the Ukrainian side attacked Russian border regions, taking control of dozens of villages in the Kursk region. The Ukrainian military claims that the attacks are aimed at key Russian military infrastructure. 33,000 Russians were evacuated from the areas occupied by Kyiv.
The British "The Telegraph" reported that Vladimir Putin deployed 50,000 Russian and North Korean soldiers, trying to reclaim Kursk from Ukraine's hands before the inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the USA.
