Rare Nissan Skyline GT‑R vanishes in audacious Melbourne heist
The car belonged to the Australian branch of the marque and was part of the company's collection, featuring in many promotional campaigns.
The Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 is one of the most recognisable sports cars in the history of Japanese motoring. Well-preserved examples are worth a fortune today, which unfortunately also attracts the attention of thieves. Nissan's Australian branch found this out painfully when it lost one of its prized exhibits.
This involves a red R32 GT-R from 1991. The car, with distinctive number plates "GTR 091", was stolen from the Nissan office in Melbourne. Due to its pristine technical condition, its value was estimated at about £130,000. Local police are investigating the case; however, it remains unknown who might have carried out such an audacious theft.
Given that between 1989 and 1994, only 100 R32 GT-Rs were sold in Australia, the vehicle is a very rare classic and an enticing target for collectors. It was most likely stolen to order by professionals. Nevertheless, we hold out hope that it can be recovered.
