RAM 1500 classic ends production, 2,450 workers face redundancies
The reason is the end of production of the classic RAM 1500. The factory will switch from a two-shift system to a single-shift system.
The production of the RAM 1500 Classic is officially ending. This is a sad moment for the workers at the Warren Truck factory in Detroit, who are facing mass redundancies.
As reported by Reuters, the redundancies will begin on October 8. From that moment, the plant will switch to a single-shift system requiring fewer employees.
Approximately 2,450 people are expected to lose their jobs, most of them members of the United Auto Workers union. According to Reuters, those made redundant can expect 52 weeks of additional unemployment benefits and transitional assistance. They will also be covered by two years of health insurance.
The production of the two remaining models - the Jeep Wagoneer and the new RAM 1500 - will continue as usual. Stellantis does not intend to discontinue these models for now.
