Most often, potatoes are simply boiled, a process that requires a lot of patience. Depending on the variety, potatoes cook for 25 to even 40 minutes. How can you speed up the cooking of potatoes? Learn a simple way.

Potatoes are one of the cheapest and, at the same time, healthiest vegetables. The tubers contain many nutrients, such as potassium, manganese, copper, iodine, and sodium. They are also a source of B vitamins, A and C. They are easy to digest and low in calories. In 100 grams of boiled potatoes without additions, there are only 70 kcal. You can eat them without any guilt.

Add to the pot to speed up potato cooking

Although potatoes are one of the most popular side dishes, many people avoid them due to the long preparation process. The tubers must be washed, peeled, thrown into water, and then cooked. How long does it take to cook potatoes? It all depends on their variety and type. Young potatoes become soft after 20 minutes, and older varieties need more time.

How can you speed up the cooking of potatoes? Cut them into small cubes and throw them into boiling water. Add a tablespoon of butter, oil, or margarine to the pot. A bit of fat will soften the tubers much faster and give them a pleasant buttery flavour. Don’t forget the lid. This will increase the temperature in the pot, and the potatoes will become soft even 10 minutes earlier.

To enhance their flavour, add a grain of allspice and a bay leaf. Such aromatic potatoes do not need any additional ingredients. This trick will be useful for those who avoid salt in their daily diet.
