"All necessary resuscitation efforts were undertaken, but they did not yield positive results," - states the report quoted by "Kommersant." As per narratives from RT, Navalny, the adversary of Putin, had a blood clot.
It is reported that an investigative team was dispatched to the colony. The service assures that the anti-Kremlin opposition member had not expressed any health concerns.
Alexei Navalny died whilst in the camp
A Russian newspaper reports that Alexei Navalny's lawyer has declined to comment on the death of his client, adding that the family decided to do so.
"The Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug has broadcasted the news about the death of Alexei Navalny in IK-3. We do not have confirmation yet. Alexei's lawyer is currently traveling to Kharp. As soon as we receive any information, we will disseminate it," - announced Kira Yarmysh, the opposition's press spokesperson, recognized by the Russian authorities as a foreign agent, on an unspecified platform.
"Kommersant" recounts that initially, Navalny was serving a sentence for fraud in a penal colony under a strict regime. Towards the end of 2023, he was relocated, and his lawyers lost communication. It has become apparent that he was transferred to a "correctional colony" named the "Polar Wolf."
"Navalny's decision to voluntarily return to Russia in 2021 from Germany, where he received treatment because - as Western laboratory tests have shown - there had been an attempt to poison him with a paralyzing agent, inspired admiration among the diverse Russian opposition" - noted "Reuters."
The agency added that Navalny asserted he was poisoned in Siberia in August 2020. The Kremlin denies attempting to assassinate him, declaring there is no proof for such a claim.
European politicians give their comments
European politicians have been loud on the death of the politician. "Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny, whose death in a penal colony was reported on Friday, paid with his life for his struggle against the system of oppression" - inscribed French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne.
He accentuated that Navalny's demise in prison "reminds us of the grim realities of Vladimir Putin's regime."
"The EU charges the Russian regime as solely responsible for this tragic death. I extend my deepest sympathies to his family and those who battle for democracy globally under harrowing conditions. Fighters may perish, but the struggle for freedom never ceases," - wrote the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
