PM Keir Starmer's 'sausage' gaffe in Gaza ceasefire plea goes viral

During a speech at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and demanded the release of Israeli "sausages". The recording of Keir Starmer's linguistic slip became a viral sensation worldwide.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, made an unusually unfortunate linguistic blunder on Tuesday at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool. At one point, he called for the return of Israeli "sausages" instead of "hostages" held by Hamas since 7th October last year.

In his speech, the Prime Minister referred to the crisis in the Middle East and the war between Hamas and Israel. Passionately appealing for peace, Starmer called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the return of the sausages. He quickly corrected himself, mentioning the hostages.

- I call for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the return of the sausages - hostages - and a renewed commitment to a two-state solution: a recognised Palestinian state alongside a safe and secure Israel - said the Prime Minister.

The recording, in which "sausages" can clearly be heard instead of "hostages," went viral worldwide:

Since taking office, Starmer's government has drawn the ire of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by halting the export of some British arms intended for use in the Gaza Strip and withdrawing opposition to the International Criminal Court's request for an arrest warrant for the Israeli Prime Minister, notes Politico.
