Pal Munck, the head of parliament security, stated that all necessary precautions have been taken in response to the threat information received from the police.
"I don't remember us ever having dealt with a similar situation before," he remarked.
The police swiftly surrounded the parliament building, located at the heart of Norway's capital, and closed the nearby streets. The special services PST were immediately informed about the situation.
In a report published at the end of March, the PST suggested that the terrorist threat level from extreme Islamists has increased and now seems more serious than the threat from right-wing extremists.
