North Korean troops bolster Russian front in Ukraine conflict

Around 12,000 soldiers from North Korea are set to arrive in Ukraine, indicating strengthening ties between Moscow and Pyongyang. Vladimir Putin has decided to bring in reinforcements from Kim Jong Un amidst ongoing difficulties on the front lines and the lack of mobilisation in the country, which he is unwilling to implement.

According to Reuters, South Korean intelligence services have revealed that North Korea is actively engaging in the conflict in Ukraine, planning to send thousands of soldiers, including a special forces unit.

Information from the Nexta portal indicates that earlier, the head of Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate announced that eastern Russia is training around 12,000 North Korean infantry soldiers to be deployed to the front. A particular unit from Asia, which has already been sent to Russia, is also expected to be deployed.

The first group, consisting of approximately 2,600 soldiers, is to be sent to the Kursk region, where Ukrainian troops have been gaining new territories for several weeks. However, where the remaining North Korean contingents will be stationed is still unknown.

The first step to world war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that hundreds of soldiers from North Korea are preparing to fight on Russia's side, estimating that around 10,000 North Korean soldiers are preparing for the front. Zelensky warned that this move could be the "first step to world war", highlighting the seriousness of the situation and the growing tensions in the region.

North Korea’s involvement in the conflict in Ukraine may affect the dynamics of the war and international relations. This situation is alarming not only from Ukraine’s perspective but also from the standpoint of international security, as such actions could provoke a reaction from Western countries and further complicate the already tense situation worldwide.
