Narinder Kaur's controversial tweet about Princess Kate sparks backlash
A controversial tweet by Narinder Kaur regarding Kate Middleton's appearance has caused quite a stir online. The celebrity's comments, suggesting that the Princess of Wales has aged due to alleged smoking, were deemed grossly tactless.
It appears that Kate Middleton has fully resumed her diplomatic duties, which include attending ceremonies. Recently, the Princess attended the Remembrance Day celebrations. This was one of her first public appearances after completing chemotherapy. Her participation aimed to pay tribute to British veterans and highlight her strength and determination to regain full health.
Kate Middleton accused of smoking
Alongside words of support and compliments, Kate also faced a controversial comment from Narinder Kaur, a British celebrity known for her appearances on "Big Brother" and "Good Morning Britain".
Genuine question – why has Kate aged so much? Isn’t she only 42? Is she a smoker? It’s the only explanation - she wrote in reference to Middleton's appearance on the platform X.
Kaur's comment sparked considerable backlash. Critical voices quickly emerged online, with many accusing the presenter of tactlessness:
That was very mean and inappropriate; Disgusting - responded internet users.
Interestingly, Narinder Kaur soon clarified that her intentions were misunderstood.
Seems people took this the wrong way. It was a genuine ask. My brother had chemo. He didn’t age. He died. Apologies if it was insensitive or just plain wrong. Hands up. I’m sorry - she wrote before ultimately deleting the original post.
British presenter under fire
In response to numerous attacks and critical comments, Kaur also recorded a video expressing her regret over the racist and sexist messages she began receiving after her comment. In the emotional post, she emphasised that her aim was not to cause a stir or offend anyone.
You didn’t care about Kate or her health; you just couldn’t stand that I, a brown Indian woman, asked a harmless question. About ageing. And you lost it - Kaur confessed, suggesting that many online users were motivated by racial biases.
In response to these words, some users on platform X pointed out that their reaction was purely due to perceiving the post as "ignorant" and "insensitive," not because of Kaur's background.
The royal family, unsurprisingly, remains above such online verbal skirmishes and has not commented.
