On Tuesday, 10 September, particularly tragic news emerged from the summit of Mont Blanc. Rescuers managed to find the bodies of four mountaineers who had been missing since Saturday. Initial reports indicate that they died from extreme exhaustion.
On Tuesday, 10 September, sad news came from Upper Savoy in France. The local prefecture reported the death of four climbers on Mont Blanc. The victims are two South Korean citizens and two Italians.
The disappearance of the mountaineers was reported on Saturday, but their bodies were found only after a three-day search. The rescue team came across the bodies of the climbers at an altitude of 4,600 metres on the northern face of the highest peak of the Alps. According to information provided by regional representatives to AFP, the cause of death was exhaustion.
The search operation was particularly difficult. Rescuers faced challenges reaching the scene due to unfavourable weather conditions and initially found the bodies of the Koreans. The Italians were subsequently found nearby.
Tragic summer on Mont Blanc
The families of the tragically deceased were informed about the incident. As the prefecture emphasised, the mountaineers travelled without a guide, increasing the risk in such difficult terrain.
This summer in Mont Blanc has been bringing tragic news continuously. In June, a body was found in the Gouter Ridge area at an altitude of 3,500 metres above sea level.
Mont Blanc, known as the "Roof of Europe," is a climbing challenge even for experienced mountaineers. The peak, which rises to 4,800 metres, is known for its difficult and dangerous routes, especially the Gouter ridge.
