Matthew Spencer is a marathon runner who completed 30 marathons in 30 consecutive days, an undeniably impressive feat that earned him the title of Guinness World Record holder.
Under the photo posted by his wife, numerous congratulations for Spencer appeared.
But that's not all. There are also those who noticed something unusual in the runner's abdominal muscles.
I see Jesus Christ on his stomach - wrote one of the commenters.
Is that a man's face on his torso? - asked someone else.
Observations about the unusual "revelation" spread quickly. The man's "six-pack" became very famous because of this.
Is there really a face of Jesus Christ there? Everyone can answer that question for themselves.
What is pareidolia?
In this case, we are dealing with pareidolia. This is a phenomenon where people see familiar shapes in random images or details, but with the understanding that these observations are not real. It is important to note that this happens with full awareness, thus distinguishing it from illusion.
Examples of pareidolia include some people seeing the face of the devil in Queen Elizabeth II's hair on Canadian banknotes from 1954 or seeing figures in the smoke from the burning World Trade Center towers. Another well-known case is the observation of a "sculpture" of a face in a mountainous area on Mars.
