The incident occurred late on Friday night (October 25) in Frodsham, northwestern England. On Saturday, a video surfaced showing Amesbury pointing at a man lying on the pavement and shouting: "Yes I am [the MP], yes I am, and you won't threaten the MP ever again, will you?"

Mike Amesbury issued a statement claiming he felt "threatened on the street after going out with friends" and contacted the Cheshire Police himself to report the incident. However, the circumstances surrounding the event remain unclear.

A breakthrough came on Sunday afternoon (October 27) when "The Mail on Sunday" published street surveillance footage, providing new insights into the matter. It shows the MP engaging in a heated argument with a man before unexpectedly punching him in the face. When the victim falls, Amesbury delivers six more blows. Three bystanders intervene to stop further aggression.

A video of this incident is circulating online. It was published on Sky News's profile on the social media platform X, showing a close-up of the MP striking the victim. Moments later, bystanders step in.

Following the release of this video, the Labour Party decided to suspend Amesbury from party membership and the parliamentary club. This incident could have serious repercussions for the MP's political career.

Mike Amesbury is 55 and has served as an MP since 2017. From 2020 to May 2023, he held various positions in the Labour Party's shadow cabinet, before the party assumed power in July after winning the elections.
