Their homes were obliterated, and according to local media reports, three people died - a woman and two children.

As per Reuters, the catastrophe led approximately 60 families to lose their homes. Some buildings were significantly damaged, whilst some disappeared entirely due to the disaster.

Currently, the western region of Bolivia is experiencing severe, record-breaking rainfall. These conditions triggered the destructive landslide.

Videos circulating on media show the scale of the destruction and the widespread covering of homes by mud.

Unfortunately, such devastating landslides have occurred in Bolivia before. In 2022, also in February, torrential rainfall impacted over 60,000 families. The tragedy also happened near the city of La Paz.

Witnesses described how the mud engulfed the homes of their neighbours and their own families.

At that time, landslides also happened in the southern part of the country, in the Chuquisaca department, particularly in the municipality of Tumpeca.

There is still a risk of further landslides as Bolivia continues to face strong rainfall.
