On Wednesday, the SBU announced on its Telegram channel that during a special operation, two Russian agents were apprehended. They were tasked with preparing an improvised explosive device and detonating it in a crowded area in Ukraine's capital.
Objective: Maximum casualties
According to SBU counterintelligence, the enemy's goal was to cause "the maximum number of casualties among Kyiv's civilian population, to incite panic among the citizens."
"To conduct the terrorist attack, Russian military intelligence (GRU) remotely recruited a 20-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia who was seeking easy money on Telegram. After recruitment, the agent received detailed instructions from the occupiers on assembling an explosive device from improvised materials"- the statement revealed.
"To collaborate with the aggressor, the agent involved her 26-year-old roommate. Prior to the attack, they were to complete a 'test' task assigned by the Russian authorities: to set fire to several pieces of military equipment belonging to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Zaporizhzhia region," the report stated.
Treason: The would-be attackers detained
According to the SBU, the perpetrator communicated with a regular employee of Russian military intelligence, who was based in the temporarily occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region.
The woman and man were charged with treason committed in conspiracy by a group under martial law conditions. Both were temporarily detained without the option to post bail.
