Kremlin urges restraint amid Iran-Israel missile conflict

The Kremlin commented on Iran's attack on Israel. "Russia calls on all fighting parties in the Middle East to exercise restraint and condemns actions that lead to civilian deaths," said Dmitry Peskov, Vladimir Putin's spokesperson.

Many pieces of information provided by Russian media or authorities are elements of propaganda. Such reports are part of the information warfare waged by the Russian Federation.

"The situation is developing according to the most alarming scenario. We call on all parties to exercise restraint in light of what is happening," stated Peskov, quoted by the Kremlin news agency TASS.

"Of course, we condemn any actions that lead to civilian deaths," added Putin's spokesperson.

Iran's attack on Israel

On Tuesday evening, Iran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles at Israel. The Israeli army reported that it shot down "a large part" of the 290-kilometre-per-hour missiles flying towards Israel. No casualties were reported. Iran announced that the raid was in retaliation for Israel's killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, and Iranian General Abbas Nilforoushan.

Western countries condemned this attack. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken deemed it "absolutely unacceptable." German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated that she warned Iran that this is a dangerous escalation of the situation. French Prime Minister Michel Barnier expressed concern over the conflict's escalation; the attack was also condemned by the United Kingdom and the United Nations.

U.S. forces actively defended Israel. The decision was made by Joe Biden, who ordered the troops stationed in the area to intercept missiles heading towards Israel.

The Pentagon reported that the defence involved, among others, two destroyers: USS Cole and USS Bulkeley. British forces also participated in the action. "British troops helped Israel repel the Iranian missile attack on Tuesday evening," confirmed the UK's Defence Minister John Healey. However, the head of the department did not specify which units were involved.
