Kim Jong Un vows deeper Russian ties amidst military alliance
Kim Jong Un shared plans to enhance cooperation with Russia within a strategic partnership. The message sent to Vladimir Putin highlights the significance of bilateral relations.
The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, announced on Monday that the cooperation with Russia would be further strengthened. In a communication with President Vladimir Putin, Kim emphasised the importance of "comprehensive strategic cooperation" between the two countries. This information was reported by the North Korean news agency KCNA.
Kim Jong Un extended New Year's greetings to Putin and all Russians, including the Russian military. He expressed a willingness to further intensify bilateral ties, which he noted have been elevated to a new level this year.
The North Korean leader, in his controversial speech, wished that the year 2025 would be remembered as the first in the 21st century when "the Russian army and people defeat neo-Nazism and achieve great victory".
Military cooperation
In June of this year, Kim and Putin signed a mutual defence agreement. This document stipulates that each party will come to the aid of the other in the event of armed aggression. North Korea has already sent tens of thousands of soldiers to Russia, who are currently engaged in the Kursk region against Ukrainian forces.
According to information from Seoul and Washington, at least 1,000 North Korean soldiers have been killed or wounded.
