Kamala Harris, the former Vice President of the United States, returned to her home in Los Angeles after leaving the White House. The return of the former aspiring leader of the United States evoked mixed reactions among her neighbours in the exclusive Brentwood neighbourhood, known, among other things, for being home to Jim Carrey, Elon Musk, and Travis Scott.

Lewis, a real estate investor living near Harris, clearly expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that his neighbour is the recent competitor to Donald Trump in the presidential elections.

I’m embarrassed that she lives here, and I’m embarrassed that she represented the United States - he said. He added that he fears Harris might run for governor in 2026, which according to him could harm California. Karen Bass, Gavin Newsom, they’ve destroyed my state. Kamala Harris will do exactly the same. I’d rather she find another state to destroy - he stated.

Another Brentwood resident complained about the traffic disruptions caused by Harris’s visits. As one of the most important figures in politics, Kamala was always surrounded by a swarm of photographers and reporters.

I don’t care that she’s back, except that they block off the road whenever she comes to town - he said.

Harris appeared in California to thank the firefighters of Los Angeles for their efforts during the recent wildfires. Thus, the presidential candidate returned home after four years in Washington. The politician, who will continue to have Secret Service protection for another six months, was escorted by four black SUVs. During her visit to California, Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff served meals to firefighters in Altadena, where the fires had caused a great deal of damage.

We wanted to come out … and just let people know that we see them and that they are cared for - said Harris, quoted by the "New York Post".

Morlene Keller, an interior designer and Harris's neighbour, was happier about her return, although she would have preferred Harris to remain in Washington for political reasons.

I wish she were back in Washington, but I’m happy to have her back - she said.

Peggy Garrity, a retired lawyer, shared these sentiments, acknowledging that Brentwood is a mix of liberals and conservatives.

It’s tragic that she’s not in the White House, but it’s a delight to have her as a neighbour - said Garrity.

She’s a good neighbour, but maybe she should just go back to the private life - noted another anonymous resident.

In recent days, Harris was said to be disappointed that Joe Biden claimed in interviews that he could have won the 2024 elections if he hadn't withdrawn from the race. Harris reportedly felt "deeply sad" over her defeat, and her close associates believe Biden's words demonstrate "one-sided loyalty" in their relationship.

Despite the difficulties, Harris does not intend to quit politics. According to well-informed strategists from Washington, she might run in the 2028 presidential elections or seek the position of governor of California. Additionally, NBC News reports that Harris might write a book about her time in Washington. However, if she decides to return to politics, she may encounter the same obstacles that thwarted her earlier presidential ambitions.
